Grey Cup 2005 - my thoughts

Well well well... Shannen and I have just had the most marvelous weekend. It was a party and a half! Grey Cup hosted by Vancouver this year. Grey Cup is the CFL equivalent to the Superbowl. Now, I'm not talking about the actual game as I really didn't see any of it, however I'm talking about the party that happens all weekend long surrounding it.

It started Thursday Night at the Calgary Hoedown held in the Molson HQ Tent. Shannen and I went in solely to take a look around. I actually wanted to be home by 9, however... the beer started flowing, the boys started showing and next thing you know, it's 2 am and I'm just getting home. CRAZYness ensues... Shannen and I met a couple of really CUTE cowboys from Calgary. Yes, I know what you're thinking, Shannen is as good as married, and don't fret, her cowboy was also as good as married, so nothing happened between them.... the cowboy I liked on the other hand is not so married, and according to his buddy, not even dating and the connection between us was awesome.... however he lives in calgary so I guess I'm going to have to settle for the one kiss we shared.

Friday, I got a part time job at American Eagle Outfitters on Robson street, and then it was off to work on the Beatty Street Block party for the night. Met a gorgeous Corporal in our Army and we flirted harmlessly all weekend long. Friday night after we were done, we grabbed Steph, our newest partner in crime and headed over to Riderville (saskatchewan pavillion/beer garden) to see what all the fuss was about. Honestly, not worth it. The only good thing about it was that the beer was cheap. No chairs, no tables, no music. So, we left without having a beer. Headed over to the Lions Den. Much better party, but too cold so we left there too and headed back to the MOlosn HQ party for a "tour". I will now refer to the HQ party as the "playpen" for the remainder of this email. Met up with some of the guys we'd talked to the night before (the kilt guys from sasketchewan) as well as meeting back up with the Cowboys. Didn't get to spend too much time with the cowboys as they were part of the Grey Cup Committee and had hoity toity stuff to do. Quick kiss and they were off. We left shortly after that so as not to completely repeat Thursday night.

Saturday morning we were back on duty. More harmless flirting with the Corporal for most of the day and we also enjoyed the parade. The sun was shining, the pipes were piping (most of the time unless they were walking past me and shannen), and the army boys honked at us from their tanks. Couple of kisses with the navy boys for some pens, some yippee yi yays from the cowboys and it was back to work again. Saturday night we were to have "double dates" with the cowboys however it all seemed to go sideways and no one could find the other and so Shannen Steph and I made our own fun back in the playpen. Danced some more with the Saskatchewan Kilt Guys, took photos with the Watermelon boys, had drinks galore with cuties from Williams Lake and called it a night around 2.

Sunday - VERY HUNGOVER!!!!! It was pretty darn evil. The weather didn't help. It rained for a good chunk of the morning, but stopped for the remainder of our afternoon. It was cold as hell, but at least the sun came out. EVERYONE was in awesome spirits for the upcoming game and the streets were packed. Talked/Flirted more with the Corporal (he ended up getting my GreyCup jacket), caught up with Denise and Johnpaul, saw the kilt guys and just generally had a blast! Best Party I've ever been too. Better than INDY. There was a post-game party that we weren't able to get to. I had my orientation at American Eagle Outfitters (paid) from 5-8 and well, Shannen had Dave at home and probably felt it wasn't in her best interest to go out one more time. It's too bad, Steph said that she saw the cowboys there. Would have been nice to say good bye but oh well... that's the way it goes sometimes....

I learned a lot about why Vancouver is great, and why it sucks. Shannen and I danced so much over the weekend with complete strangers. They'd come up, ask us to dance and then there we were, two stepping across the floor... guys in vancouver, they A. don't know how to 2step and B. wouldn't ask if they did. I think it was like being on vacation in a way, only I wasn't the one on vacation, but you get my drift. I got hit on more this past weekend than I think I have in my entire life! It's crazy!!!
